Our current programme of talks


We’re delighted to share our programme of monthly talks for the autumn and New Year. From the health of the River Leam and the restoration of treasured historic buildings to Dickensian Christmas and the remarkable story of the Loft Theatre, there should be something for everyone. We hope you’ll join us for these enjoyable evenings of local insight, conversation and good company.

Wednesday 14 October
Warwick Leper Hospital: the £2.8M restoration
David Trevis-Smith, Project Director at West Midlands Heritage, will tell us about the restoration of the historic buildings at St Michael’s Place in Warwick.

Wednesday 11 November
Restoring the Royal Pump Rooms roof
Johnathan Branson, Projects and Development Manager; David Elkington, Strategic Director; and Paul Roberts, Arts Manager at Warwick District Council, will discuss this £2M major project to protect one of Leamington’s most important buildings.

Wednesday 9 December
Dickens’ Christmas: society then and now with readings
Trevor Humphreys, Chairman of Leamington Literary Society, will explore Christmas in Dickens’s time and its connections with our celebrations today.

Wednesday 13 January
The Loft Theatre: a story of survival and growth since 1922
Sue Moore, Artistic Director, will recount the Loft Theatre’s eventful history and its development into the theatre we know today.

Monday 25 January
Loft Theatre site visit
We will visit the Loft Theatre for a behind-the-scenes tour and an opportunity to see the stage set for David Harrower’s Blackbird. Further details about the visit will follow.


Venue: our regular talks are held at The Oddfellows Hall, 22 New Street, Leamington Spa CV31 1HP, at 7.30pm. Members do not need to book. The side entrance is via the private car park.

Admission: Members are free; £5 otherwise, to help cover hall hire and tea and coffee refreshments. For non-members, pre-booking tickets is preferred, but contactless (card or mobile) or cash (exact amount please) payments are available on the door.

Parking: Free on-street parking is available nearby, subject to space, on unrestricted sections of the north side of Leam Terrace (CV31 1BB) and the south west end of Mill Road (CV31 1BA). Please check local signs and road markings before parking.
